From Hyenas at Old Trafford to Definitions in the WNBA: The 2 Biggest Talking Points in Sports Right Now

1. PAUL POGBA — "THE CURSED MIDFIELDER"*

Remember when Paul Pogba was supposed to run midfield for the next 10 years? World Cup winner. Dab machine. Haircut influencer. £89m man.

Fast forward to 2026:

- *6 appearances for Monaco

- *0 goals. 0 assists.*

- *Contract being mutually terminated Sept 1 so he can "find a new club"

The stats scream washed. The headlines scream drama.

And then there’s the story that won’t die: his own brothers allegedly buried a *hyena at Old Trafford* years ago out of jealousy. Since then it’s been ban, injuries, extortion saga, and now Monaco pulling the plug.

*The Reality Check:*

At 33, he still has the name, the smile, the chain. But football pays for 90 minutes, not vibes. Six games in a season isn’t a comeback, it’s a cameo. The talent was real. The availability wasn’t. And that’s what kills legacies.

*OVERRATED VERDICT: YES.*

Pogba isn’t a fraud. He was world class. But we overrated the durability and bought the brand over the output. World Cup Pogba was elite. Everything after was potential with a curse attached.

2. WNBA — "THE MEETING THAT SOLVED NOTHING"*

The WNBA called a task force meeting after 2 retired NBA guys joked about "identifying as women" and entering the 2027 draft.

Result?

- *No new rule.*

- *No new definition.*

- *Just a promise of "more conversations."*

It was the most corporate thing sports has done all year. Call a meeting. Talk in circles. End with "we’ll circle back."

The CBA still says "only women are eligible" but doesn’t define it. So right now the eligibility requirements are: 1. Be a woman. 2. Be good at basketball. 3. Define #1 in the comments because we didn’t.

*The Reality Check:*

There are currently *0 transgender women in the WNBA*. The league spent a week debating a hypothetical and still left the rulebook with a blank page. That’s not leadership. That’s "let me check with my manager."

*OVERRATED VERDICT: YES.*

The process is overrated. If you’re going to make a rule, make a rule. If you’re not, say so. "We had thoughtful discussions" isn’t in the CBA.

So here we are. One guy possibly cursed by a hyena, and one league cursed by indecision. Both getting more headlines than minutes played.

Which one deserves "Overrated" more this week: The player or the process? I’m reading every comment so come debate me.
