HOT TAKES FOR THE WEEK:

Where we call out the hype, the history, and the headlines you probably missed while arguing about VAR

#### *1. ROBINHO: "I THOUGHT I WAS JOINING MAN UNITED"*

18 years later and this is still the most expensive wrong turn in Manchester history.

Pictured above: Robinho in 2008, looking like a man who just realized his GPS said "Manchester" but forgot to specify which one.

*"YES, I THOUGHT I WAS JOINING MANCHESTER UNITED. I WAS MISLEAD BY ALL INVOLVED. I WASN'T AWARE THERE WAS ANOTHER MANCHESTER CLUB"*

Bro. BRO. There are two Manchester clubs. There’s been two since 1880. That’s like moving to Johannesburg and being shocked there’s Orlando Pirates _and_ Kaizer Chiefs. Or moving to New York and being shocked there’s more than one pizza place.

To be fair to Robinho, in 2008 City were still the "noisy neighbors" with a stadium sponsored by a blue square and a dream. United had Fergie, Rooney, and 3 Champions Leagues. City had... Thaksin Shinawatra (the Thai billionaire) and hope.

City fans still frame this quote. It’s their origin story. "We were so small, even our own signings didn’t know we existed." Now look at them. Robinho, your GPS error built a dynasty.

*The Overrated Verdict*: Robinho isn’t overrated. His Satellite Navigation [Satnav] is .

#### *2. FLASHBACK: TEVEZ & MASCHERANO TO WEST HAM*

If Robinho’s was a wrong address, Tevez and Mascherano to West Ham in 2006 was a full-blown identity theft.

Two World Cup stars, fresh off the plane from Argentina, rocking up at Upton Park because their third-party owners fancied a change of scenery. The paperwork was so shady the Premier League fined West Ham £5.5m and just... let them keep playing.

Tevez scored the goal that kept them up. Mascherano played 5 games and left for Liverpool like he’d just popped out for milk.

West Ham fans still don’t know if they should thank them or sue them. It’s the football equivalent of ordering takeaway and getting a Michelin chef to deliver. Confusing, expensive, and over before you could enjoy it.

*The Overrated Verdict*: West Ham’s recruitment team in 2006. Hype: 10/10. Logic: 0/10.

#### *3. LAKERS SOLD FOR $12 BILLION. TWELVE. BILLION.*

Breaking: The L.A. Lakers are being sold to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger for _over $12,000,000,000_.

For context, that’s roughly the GDP of Iceland. Or 400,000 LeBron jerseys. Or Jeff Bezos’ lunch money for a month.

Bob Iger already runs Disney. Josh Kushner runs venture capital. Now they run Kobe’s ghost, 17 banners, and every celebrity courtside seat in America.

What do you even do with a $12B team? Charge $2000 for popcorn? Rename the floor "The Mickey Mouse Hardwood"?

The Lakers are no longer a basketball team. They’re a media property with a basketball problem.

*The Overrated Verdict*: The price. For $12B I expect the players to come to my house and do my laundry.

#### *4. RUSSELL WESTBROOK: CALLS TIME AFTER 18 YEARS

It’s official. The triple-double king is done. Russell Westbrook has called time on an 18-year NBA career. The man averaged a triple-double 4 times, owns the all-time triple-doubles record, and won MVP in 2017. He broke the internet, broke ankles, and yes... broke the concept of shot selection. But we loved him for it.

From OKC MVP to Lakers meme to Clippers energy drink, Russ played every game like it was Game 7 and his rent was due.If this is it, thanks for the stats, the heart, and for proving you can be called "washed" and "unstoppable" in the same week for 18 straight years.

The Overrated Verdict: The "he can’t shoot" takes. 25K points + most triple-doubles ever says otherwise.

#### *5. JEFF BEZOS WANTS LIVERPOOL*

And finally: Jeff Bezos is reportedly interested in buying a stake in Liverpool FC.

Prime members, your delivery driver might also own your club soon. Imagine: "Your package and your left-back will arrive in 2 hours."

FSG would sell 10% and use it to buy a new analytics intern. Bezos would buy 10% and accidentally buy the entire city of Liverpool with it.

Liverpool fans: you wanted billionaire owners. You just didn’t think he’d be the guy who put your local bookshop out of business.

*The Overrated Verdict*: FSG selling to Bezos. They’ll call it "investment." We’ll call it "Alexa, buy me a midfielder."

And if you thought there was only one Manchester club... it’s okay. Robinho did too.
